Acupuncture was developed thousands of years ago by the Chinese to bring balance and harmony to ones body and eliminate illness. The base of the medicine is to bring balance between yin and yang. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), when yin and yang are balanced, they work together with the natural flow of qi (energy) to help the body achieve and maintain health. Thin needles are used to stimulate the body's qi within energetic pathways that are called meridians. Acupuncture points are located along the meridians and stimulate different areas of the body. Acupuncture is one branch of the five branches of TCM, the other four branches being; Energetics, Herbs, Massage, and Nutritional Counseling. Each treatment is tailored to fit the patient's needs incorporating the five branches of TCM. Both chronic and acute conditions can be treated with acupuncture.

Medical Qigong is the Energics branch of the five branches of TCM. It can be incorporated into an acupuncture treatment or a patient can choose to have a separate Medical Qigong treatment. Medical Qigong treatments include both table work and learning of Qigong exercises to help extend the treatment. The table work is applied through touching and non touching methods and works to rebalance energetic dysfunction. The Qigong exercises incorporate special methods of breathing, posture, and mental concentration to purge and detoxify, to tone and strengthen, and regulate and rebalance.
